Description

You are a mad scientist, and you've just stolen an experimental nuclear gun powered by an unstable plutonium core! Collect plutonium to charge up your gun and do more damage, but be careful! If your gun is overcharged, then you will take damage over time, but overcharging your gun will also cause a chain reaction whenever you kill an enemy, arcing the laser onto all nearby enemies for a devastating effect! Try to use this to your advantage, but be careful you don't succumb to radiation poisoning in the process!

Controls

  • W/A/S/D: Move
  • Left Click: Shoot
  • E: Charge Gun
  • Q: Vent Gun (Discharge)
  • Shift: Dash

GWJ #49

This is my 4th GWJ entry. I'm interpreting the theme of "unstable" by basing the game around a nuclear gun powered by an unstable core. The gameplay is "unstable", because the player has to balance more power with taking self-damage from the gun.

Wild Cards used:

  • Colossal Creature: Boss fight is a giant scientist
  • A Blast From the Pastel: The scientists have pastel-colored hair

The project is open-source: https://github.com/charliedavenport/DemonCore (paid assets are not in the repo, so you will have broken dependencies when you open it in Godot)

Tips

  • The overcharge effect on the gun is honestly OP. Try to get your gun overcharged, then quickly vent it (Q) once you have started the chain reaction
  • The dash goes farther based on your gun charge. Use it to avoid the boss's attacks

Hey! I really loved the intro to the boss fight. There is no music for the fight sequence. Is this a bug? The music plays fine when you enter the boss level and it fades out when you initiate the boss.

This happened on both HTML and desktop versions on Mac.

Hey thanks for reporting the bug! What browser are you using to run the HTML version?

Whoops! I forgot to add the browser in my original comment. I am using Firefox.  I did not try it on Safari. I can do it a bit later if you want me to test the game on it.

honestly - this was the most fun game in this competition in my opinion!

Thank you! That means a lot to me
